GooniesSTORY / GAMEPLAY
The Goonies is a platform and puzzle game, featuring five scenes. After each successfully completed scene, a key word is given and thus the player can continue the game from this point at any time. The MSX version of The Goonies borrows the basic concept from NES version, although it features completely different levels and a number of differences. The stages themselves are significantly longer and more complicated, as you need to rescue seven Goonies per stage instead of just one on the NES version. There are still plenty of hidden items to find, but you never get any additional weapons, so you're stuck with your crappy kung-fu kick for the entire game. You need to use keys instead of bombs to open doors, and you can only carry one key at a time. There's also an experience meter that increases every time you kill an enemy. Filling this will grant a minor health restoration. The action is fun, mindless and absorbing, and the huge range of enemies and traps keeps it that way for hours.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The graphics are cute. They are not quite as good as the NES game, and the stages are not as varied either, with most levels simply being palette swapped variations of the same stage (cave). But still it looks great on the MSX. The sprites move smoothly on the screen too.
Sound and music are similarly effective. it offers a pretty nice tune (following the -Goonies R Good Enough- song from famous Cyndi Lauper found in the original movie) and several sound effects which matched well to the game's atmosphere.
